Philosophy
Community Living Chatham-Kent Respite Services are voluntary recreational leisure based programs that aim to provide people opportunities to spend time with peers, develop additional support networks, and experience the challenges of being away from family and the learning opportunities that this may offer.
Supports are focused on ensuring that all medical, health, physical, emotional and social needs are met. Coordination of additional supports and opportunities are also emphasized.
Respite Services are available to all parents/guardians of persons who have diverse abilities in the Chatham-Kent area. It is also hoped this will provide families with a much needed break that will assist them in continuing to support the unique needs of their family member.
About
Respite Services are provided in a home environment which allows an opportunity to share accommodations with peers and learn related skills. Full sleeping, bathing, kitchen and laundry facilities are available. Recreational activities outside of the location are planned according to community events, availability and funding. Television, movies, board games, card games, computers, crafts, a gaming system(s) etc. are available to everyone using respite services and WIFI.

Expanded Respite Option – Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM
About
This Respite Service is available Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM daily throughout the year, closing down from Christmas to New Years, two week summer shut down, and March break.
Families may call in advance and be able to book an entire day, week, or just an hour or two. Drop in times for one or more hours are provided, but dependent on capacity and staffing availability.
This space, depending on a person’s need, allows CLC-K to enhance our current Adult Respite program. Currently Adult Respite does not allow for continuous day coverage for staffing. The Expanded Respite Option allows for more people to stay at Adult Respite for the entire week, therefore, families do not have to arrange an alternative plan for the Monday to Friday daytime hours.
This fully accessible location provides an opportunity for people to participate in a voluntary leisure and recreational focused program designed to enhance activities of daily living. The program is able to provide limited personal care and supports to meet the person’s needs. Some activities in the program include a computer lab, arts and crafts, exercise, music therapy, sensory room, outdoor activities (weather permitting), and some community events. This environment is not suitable for a person that has high behaviour support needs. The person must be willing to participate and interact well with others, based on their abilities.
Capacity: One space is available.
Cost: At this time, the opportunity is free.
Access
An open vacancy would be posted with the DSO and new referrals would be received from the DSO. Existing people approved by the DSO utilizing Adult Respite Supports would be grandfathered and be able to use the service immediately. At this time CLC-K does not charge any costs for use of this respite opportunity.
