Philosophy
Community Living Chatham-Kent has offered Respite services to families since 1980. The program has grown significantly since then and currently offers service to over eighty families. Respite services are a voluntary, recreational, and leisure-based program that aims to provide children opportunities to spend time with peers, develop support networks, experience the challenges of being away from family, and the recreation learning opportunities that the program may offer.
Respite services are available to all parents/guardians of a child with diverse abilities in the Chatham-Kent area. The purpose of Respite is to provide families with a break that assists them in continuing to support the unique needs of their loved one.
Respite services are available throughout the year. Program closures occur from Christmas to New Year’s, the Easter Holiday, and the first week of September when the children return to school. Families can schedule Respite stays from 1-21 days. Respite stays are booked based on the family/child’s need and availability.
About
Respite Services are provided in a home environment which allows an opportunity to share accommodations with peers and learn related skills. Full sleeping, bathing, kitchen and laundry facilities are available. Recreational activities outside of the location are planned according to community events, availability and funding. Television, movies, board games, card games, toys (for children), computers, crafts, a gaming system(s) etc. are available to everyone using respite services and WIFI.
From age 15, we also offer social/recreational programs and summer employment experiences.
