A new Chatham park created as a tribute to Ukraine will be officially opened this weekend.
Located at the corner of Grand Avenue and Victoria Street in Chatham, the park is a co-operative effort by Rotary Sunrise and property owner Community Living.
The event is scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m.
The club, which will soon mark its 25th anniversary in Chatham, is planning a short program and will present a cheque for $40,000 to Rotary International’s ShelterBox program, with funds going to Ukrainian humanitarian relief.
It represents the culmination of the club’s Sunflowers for Ukraine project launched in the spring.
Featured in the park are two beds of sunflowers and benches, as well as flags of Ukraine and Canada.
Local businesses and other donors to the cause will also be recognized on Saturday, with members of the Ukrainian community expected in attendance.
