Quality Assurance Measures
 -

The government wants to improve services and supports for adults who have developmental disabilities and their families. It wants services and supports to:
• Be fair, so that everyone gets treated the same way
• Be flexible, so that services and supports better meet people’s needs, and
• Be here for the future.
To make these changes, the government passed the Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act, 2008. This new law will replace the Developmental Services Act, which was put in place over 35 years ago.

Bill 77 - On May 18, 2008, the Ontario government introduced legislation that, if passed, would lay the groundwork for the province to modernize and improve service delivery for adults with a developmental disability.  This was a commitment made by the Minister of Community and Social Services at the Community Living Ontario 2007 Annual Conference.

"The current Developmental Services Act is out of date . . . this legislation will help us to build the foundation for the next generation of people who have a developmental disability," said Minister of Community and Social Services Madeleine Meilleur.
