RESPECT Tour Award
Community Living Chatham-Kent receives award for RESPECT Tour
In early June at Community Living Ontario’s 58th Annual General Conference in Niagara Falls, Community Living Chatham-Kent’s RESPECT TOUR 2010 was awarded the James Montgomerie Community Award.
The award was established in memory of Jim Montgomerie, an educator and past president of Community Living Ontario who dedicated his time and energy to improve the quality of life for people who have an intellectual disability.
The RESPECT Tour is a variety show including song, dance, puppets and narration that visits local schools teaching the anti-bullying message “bullying is the issue, respect is the solution”. The cast of the RESPECT Tour is primarily made up of individuals who have an intellectual disability.
The RESPECT Tour was awarded this honour because of its impact on the community addressing the important issue of bullying while promoting a positive perception of the abilities of individuals who have an intellectual disability.
The award was accepted by Ron Coristine, the creator and director of the RESPECT Tour along with Jackie Caza, the director of the Dare to Dream puppet group and six cast members: Kevin Sinclair, Saaj Banga, Steve Williams, Kat Rogers, Lindsay Pryor and Jane Hiday.
