With the use of technology the possibilities are endless!
Utilizing technology is a great way to enhance the lives of people who access services.
Community Living Chatham-Kent developed a framework that encourages using technology as a solution to achieve goals, remove barriers, and participate in daily tasks more effectively. Here are a few ways that technology can be beneficial:
- Communication: For people who have difficulty speaking or hearing, technology can be used to facilitate communication. For example, text-to-speech software can read out messages for people who have a visual impairment, while speech-to-text software can transcribe spoken words into text for people who have a hearing impairment.
- Assistive devices: There are many types of assistive devices that can be used to perform daily tasks. Examples include smart home devices (turning lights on/off automatically on a timer), a talking thermostat, doorbell cameras, or automatic door openers.
- Online communities: Online communities can be a great way to connect with others. Social media platforms, forums, and online support groups can provide a sense of community and belonging that may be difficult to find in the offline world.
Each assistive device is carefully planned based on a person-centered model. The 2023 Everybody Campaign will go directly towards the purchase of assistive equipment. These types of technologies can include sensors, mobile applications, communication systems, adaptive tools, remote support systems, and other smart home devices.
Your generous gift will provide Sam, as well as many others who have diverse abilities, the opportunity to empower themselves by completing tasks independently, and removing barriers while enhancing accessibility and inclusion.
